Friday Night Strongman: Yoke


Are you looking for a new challenge? For a new way to breathe some life into your stale workouts? Sounds like you’re looking for Friday Night Strongman.

Once each month, Above the Rest Training Systems opens its doors to anyone and everyone that wants to try Strongman. This is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on the implements with experienced athletes who can teach you how to perform the exercises safely.

Each FNS starts at 6:00 PM with warmups. Then we make sure that everyone knows how to handle whatever implement we’re hitting that day, taking time to teach everyone who comes. Afterwards we push each other to see what we can do, and wrap everything up with food and training talk.


This month, we’re hitting the yoke.

This implement is a Strongman favorite because of it’s simplicity.

Its heavy. You pick it up. You carry it. You put it down.

The most important things to note about the yoke have to do with keeping your core braced and your hips organized.

To get to the extreme weights you might see in a heavy competition, you have to have a rock solid torso to transfer the force from your bottom half to the bar.

Don’t be fooled, everyone can benefit from this exercise and we’ll show you all the tricks.
